Abe’s Pledges

THANK YOU FOR ELECTING ME - MY PRIORITIES WHILST SERVING YOU

Thank you for electing me!

I have 5 key priorities to deliver against in my first term as your Labour Councillor. These priorities, I believe, will make Fernhill a better place to live and work in for all our residents. Furthermore, I have a set of goals that I will strive to achieve, working with your other Labour Councillors to deliver a better Fernhill and a better Rushmoor. Through regular community newsletters, door-to-door visits and posting on the Here for Fernhill Facebook group, I will keep you routinely updated on the work I am getting up to and the progress I am making against each of my priorities.

MY FiVE POINT PLAN FOR A BETTER FERNHILL

BINNING THE CHAPEL LANE BUNDS

The Conservatives’ ill-judged decision to install the Chapel Lane bunds has significantly inconvenienced our community. I will now prioritise removing the bunds, creating more parking for the shops and bidding for relevant grants to fund this.

PROVIDING MORE PARKING

As you ward councillor, I am advocating for greater funding allocation for traffic management within Fernhill. I am fighting for the construction of more parking bays and campaigning for driveway installation to be more accessible thus easing congestion on our streets and verges.

SPRUCING UP OUR COMMUITY

Through regular community visits, I am pushing for roads, pot holes and pavements to be repaired and better maintained, new street signs installed and fly tipping removed. I am working hard to ensure that our neighbourhoods to be better maintained and improved.

HELPING ALL HOUSEHOLDS

Whether you’re a tenant or homeowner, hard up or well off and whether or not you voted for me, I am a Councillor for all. If you need support, my inbox is always open. I am fighting for Rushmoor and other organisations to soften the impact of rising costs and provide every household with greater support.

LISTENING TO YOU

I am Fernhill’s voice on Rushmoor Borough Council. I will never take anyone for granted. Through regular residents surgeries, newsletters, door-to-door visits and being active on ”Here for Fernhill”, you’ll always be heard and your voice will always matter to me.

FURTHER GOALS I WILL DELIVER against WHILST IN OFFICE

CRIME AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

My goal is to ensure that we reduce our ever increasing crime and anti-social behaviour within Fernhill and across Rushmoor. I firmly believe in Labour’s “tough on crime, tough on causes of crime” mantra.

Through working with your Rushmoor Labour Councillors, I will support and fight for the creation of Youth Crime Prevention initiatives,  an increase in Rushmoor’s Community Safety budget and investment in mobile CCTV units.

I will lobby for more bobbies on the beat in Fernhill, ensuring that patrols are targeted not only in crime hotspots, but throughout the community – to prevent crimes from being committed in the first place.

Finally, I will work with local PCs and PCSOs to ensure a more active presence, crime prevention advice and tools are available at the point of need and provided to residents where requested.

SPEEDING AND DANGEROUS DRIVING

Speeding and dangerous driving is a key concern for many residents in our community. The results from the recent survey I conducted report that speeding and dangerous are prominent throughout our community, with Fernhill Road, Chapel Lane and Sandy Lane being of greatest concern for our residents.

Using the results from the survey, I will work with the relevant authorities to introduce measures to reduce dangerous driving within Fernhill. I will campaign for the solutions requested by residents such as additional speed limit signs, electronic speed reminders, chicanes and suitable pedestrian crossings.

Furthermore, I will work with Hampshire Constabulary to increase the frequency of mobile speed camera visits to problem roads and explore the provision of noise-detecting traffic cameras within the ward, to prevent dangerous driving in twilight hours.

HOUSING

Our local housing needs to be safe, efficient and affordable for our residents.

For renters, I will work with other councillors and landlords (such as housing associations and the MOD) to ensure that our renters’ homes and HMOs are fit for purpose, holding landlords to account and pushing for repairs and maintenance where required.

For homeowners, I will support them in ensuring their homes are fit for purpose by promoting various schemes backed by both the government and private sector organisations. I will explore schemes for Rushmoor to implement to support Homeowners when they are hard up.

For those living with family or friends, I will work with Rushmoor Labour Councillors to ensure that Rushmoor Homes delivers more genuinely affordable homes (one bedroom, two bedroom and family homes) to rent, or buy. Rushmoor Labour is committed to amending the council’s Local Plan to increase affordable housing targets to 50% for new developments.

Young People

My goal is to ensure that our young people have a place where they can belong; a place to “hang out” away from social media. I will lobby for funding to introduce a Youth Centre and improve parks and playgrounds within Fernhill.

Additionally, I want to give our young people a voice in our community – opportunities which allow them to shape a Rushmoor where they decide to settle when leaving their family homes. I will propose that Rushmoor creates a Youth Council, with representatives from our local schools.

Furthermore, I will endeavour to provide our young people with regular access to employment, education and futures advice which suits their needs, hopes and aspirations.

LOCAL BUSINESSES

My goal is to ensure that our local and community owned businesses can prosper.

Our local businesses are the cornerstone of our community, from our first class pharmacy to our fantastic convenience stores, takeaways, hairdressers and pubs within Fernhill.

I will explore and support the delivery of schemes and projects which improve the accessibility of shopping locally: from prioritising an increase in parking and bicycle storage, to working with businesses to offer discounts and loyalty schemes for local customers.
