Further to the petition that local pharmacist Mak and I raised to Hampshire County Council back in November, in addition to the follow up emails to our local Councillor Roz Chadd, we have now had a response from Romsey based Councillor Nick Adams-King. In short, Hampshire don’t want to take the action that our community has petitioned for, with Cllr Adams-King suggesting that other measures would have been “equally unpopular”. They have also tried passing the buck onto the local businesses, asking them to rectify the mistake that the council created! I’ve written back to Cllr Adams-King, inviting him to come and see the bunds for himself, and to discuss a way forward. Watch our video for more info!  I’ve also posted Cllr Adams-King’s response in the comments section below. Mak and I will continue to fight on this issue and I will continue to fight on other road safety issues within our…

Following reports of vehicle break-ins and thefts on Irvine Drive, I visited residents on the road this evening to discuss concerns with them. I’ll be back tomorrow speaking to those residents who I couldn’t call on this evening (because it got too late). I’ve also been in touch with the police who are actively investigating this. I’ll be contacting Rushmoor’s Community Safety Team to see if we can get some more patrols in the area but I know that one of the biggest issues sadly facing the police at the moment is lack of police/PCSOs. Finally, I have various resources on hand which I am happy to drop off to residents – please get in touch (see below picture) If you notice anything suspicious or are victim to any of the criminal activity taking place, please do report it either to 101 or online. In an emergency, always call 999!

Fly tipping on Pinewood Park reported. I have also sent another chaser email regarding the fly tipped refrigerator that was reported last May!

Faulty street light on Rowans Close reported. I have also raised enquiries with Enerveo (SSE) about a faulty street light on Fintry Place which does not show up on their system. This is an older street light column which will likely require replacement.

I know that speeding is a key issue for people within our community. So, as promised, I have signed up for Speedwatch! Last week, the Speedwatch team carried out a session on Minley Road. Out of 113 cars, over 20 were found to be speeding – despite us being out there in full fluorescent gear. I’ll be carrying on with sessions and campaigning for more traffic calming measures throughout the year. Watch this space!

With the recent increase we have seen in crime, Rushmoor Borough Council has now launched a community safety consultation to understand how safe you feel in Aldershot and Farnborough, if there are areas where you feel less safe, and if you have been a victim of crime or antisocial behaviour. The survey will cover areas such as how safe you feel outside during the day and at night, how safe you feel in our parks and town centres and your views on the level of crime in the area. Please do take a moment to respond if you have a chance. Consultation closes end of Feb!  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/rbc2023safety https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/rbc2023safety

SANDY LANE TRAFFIC CALMING Please sign the petition to see further traffic calming measures introduced onto Sandy Lane! https://chng.it/v22nQq6DNW In our recent Speeding and Traffic Calming survey, 54% of respondents indicated that they were concerned about speeding and dangerous driving on Sandy Lane! Hampshire County Council has said that “there is no prospect for introducing further traffic calming measures (in Sandy Lane)” BECAUSE “these are only considered where there is a need to address issues of excessive traffic speed with a related road casualty history”… Sandy Lane has had motorists deaths, it’s also had accidents that have resulted in life changing or serious injuries. Local Resident Geoffrey Bateman has launched a petition asking the council to listen to the views of local residents and amend their decision not to explore further traffic calming measures on the road. If you would like to see the decision reconsidered, please sign the petition…
